For those of you who haven't heard of PCOS, it is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Basically there are cysts on the ovaries that cause hormone imbalances (for more info read http://www.webmd.com/women/tc/polycystic-ovary-syndrome-pcos-topic-overview). The biggest issues that it has caused for me is fertility complications and facial hair (we will leave the former topic for a later date).
Oh, the facial hair! What a pain in the ass. As soon as I think I have gotten them about 10 more pop up! It's like a tiny game Wack-A-Mole on my chin. Going to have my face waxed became uneconomical, because it would cost upwards to $40+ a week. It's not like being able to go 6 weeks between eyebrow waxes. PCOS sister, you know what I am talking about! So I thought depilatory cream would do the trick, wrong again. That was not a good way to find out I was allergic (at least to the brands I tried)!! I thought of laser treatment, but let's be honest, I have to save up $$ for that (I am a hard working gal after all).
One of the worst things is going out in public then realizing (once you look in the vanity mirror of your vehicle) that you are sporting a Duck Dynasty worthy beard. Ok maybe that is a bit of an over exaggeration, but it can make you feel that way. I even find myself using my hands or other objects to cover my chin when talking to others in person. It can be a completely embarrassing situation.
So, if you see a woman with a 5 o'clock shadow, don't automatically assume she is taking testosterone for a sex change, but maybe her body is doing this to her.
